IES – Local Asbestos Surveyors in Leicester
By working with our sister company, Clearview Environmental Ltd (UKAS No. 6536), we can provide expert Asbestos Surveyors in Leicester and nationwide, and our surveyors can offer a cost-effective solution when you are looking to identify and manage hazardous asbestos within your building. You have a responsibility to ensure that asbestos is effectively managed at your premises to ensure that staff and visitors to your building are always protected from the threat posed by this hazardous material.
All organisations have a “Duty to manage asbestos in buildings”, as outlined in the Control of Asbestos Regulations 2012. The extensive use of asbestos over the course of many years has led to a large number of buildings throughout the UK containing asbestos, which isn’t a problem as long as the asbestos remained undisturbed and in good condition. If the material is in poor condition or becomes damaged, it can release dangerous fibres which could cause serious long term health problems such as cancer and asbestosis. We can carry out a thorough assessment of your building to discover if asbestos is present, issue you with a report containing advice and management on how best to deal with the asbestos including managing the asbestos in situ or removing and disposing of as efficiently as possible.
Asbestos Surveyors You can Trust
We ensure that surveys are carried out by suitably qualified and competent surveyors (as strongly recommended by the Health and Safety Executive) and have extensive experience of working with a wide variety of clients from both the public and private sectors. Working with and removing asbestos is subject to the Control of Asbestos Regulations 2012. It is your duty to ensure that you meet these regulations, and take steps to determine whether asbestos is present within your building. The HSE's guidance document "HSG 264 Asbestos: The Survey Guide" recommends that you hire a competent surveyor to assess your property, who has sufficient training, expertise and the right equipment to complete the work to a high standard. This is why it is so important to work with a competent surveyor, just like those from IES.

The requirements are placed on 'duty holders', who should:
- Take reasonable steps to determine the location of materials likely to contain asbestos;
- Presume materials to contain asbestos, unless there are good reasons not to do so;
- Make and maintain a written record of the location of the ACMs and and presumed ACMs; assess and monitor the condition of ACMs and presumed ACMs
- Assess the risk of exposure from ACMs and presumed ACMs and prepare a written plan of the actions and measures necessary to manage the risk (ie the 'management plan'); and take steps to see that these actions are carried out.
Surveys must be carried out by competent persons or organisations. To be competent, the 'surveyor' must:
- Have sufficient training, qualifications, knowledge, experience and ability to carry out their duties in relation to the survey and to recognise their limitations;
- Have sufficient knowledge of the specific tasks to be undertaken and the risks which the work will entail;
- Be able to demonstrate independence, impartiality and integrity;
- Have an adequate quality management system; and carry out the survey in accordance with HSE document "HSG264 Asbestos: The survey guide"
"HSE strongly recommends the use of accredited or certificated surveyors for asbestos surveying. The duty holder should not appoint or instruct an independent surveyor to carry out a survey unless the surveyor is competent."
IES ensure that surveys are carried out by competent surveyors and therefore are able to assist duty holders and building owners to meet the requirements of the Health and Safety Executive and government legislation.
